Just before 2 PM an explosion and fire occurred at the PharmaCann Facility located in the 300 block of Log Canoe Circle. The facility performs cannabis extraction. This process uses a blend of propane and butane. While conducting the extraction an unknown event occurred resulting in an explosion and subsequent fire. Multiple fire department from Queen Anne's and Anne Arundel County responded and quickly contained the fire. Hazardous Materials teams from Kent Island VFD and Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to access any hazards from the products used in the extraction process. Anne Arundel County Special Operations personnel also accessed the structural damage to the building. Two employees sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals. KIVFD Chief Buddy Thomas was in command of this incident. ` Responding departments included Kent Island, Grasonville, Queenstown, United Communities, Naval Academy FD, Annapolis City FD, Goodwill (Centreville), QA Co. DES (EMS & FMO), AA Co. FD. Several departments from surrounding counties provided standby crews to cover responding departments. Additional photos at On & Off the Fire Scene (link below) |
