CASH BASH IS COMING TO KENT ISLAND!!!!!
Saturday, September 18, 2010
-

“It’s a lot of fun! Good food, plenty of ice cold beer and there’s a winner every two and a half minutes!” That’s all Lou Johnson, Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department 's  Cash Bash Chairman , had to say to get a group of about 100 locals to send a convoy to the Oakland volunteer fire department’s  yearly Mega Bash.

The premise behind the fundraiser is simple. Tickets are $100 (which includes a guest) and only 1000 are sold. The day of the event, numbers are drawn with a lottery ball machine every 2 ½ minutes. The prize for each drawing is predetermined and noted on the tickets and displayed on several large screens around the event area. Prizes range from $125 to the grand prize at the end of the day of $10,000!

The trip to Oakland was very successful for the KIVFD group. In the end there were many $125 winners, plus a few $500 and $1000 winners. Not to mention two 4 wheelers and an Entertainment package that included a 55” flat screen television. Then, at the end of the day, KIVFD member, Todd Kerchner, won the grand prize of $10,000!

According to KIVFD President, Jody Schulz, “The excitement was so contagious and the event such a success, we’ve decided to bring it home to Kent Island!”  Lou Johnson has been the driving force and visionary that convinced the department to get behind this fundraiser. You won't want to miss this event!!

The Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first annual “Cash Bash” on Saturday, September 18, 2010. Already, the committee has lined up fabulous prizes to raffle including an all inclusive travel package, a John Deere mower, a Suzuki King Quad  and a hot tub to name a few. Not to mention the cash prizes culminating with the $10,000 prize to be raffled off at the end of the day!

Tickets are $100 and are being sold at the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department and at local businesses…just look for the Cash Bash posters! For more information, please call 410-643-6288.

LIVE FIRE TRAINING BURN
Saturday, August 11, 2007
-
The morning of Saturday, August 11th came early for the firefighters in Queen Anne's County. Over 65 firefighters and medics gathered at Station 1 at 0630 hrs to conduct a live fire training drill in a 7000 sq ft mansion on the north end of the island. The mansion had been made available for training by a local resident who plans on building a new home on the property.

Instructors and firefighters from Station 1 had been working weeks to prepare the mansion for Saturday's training exercise. All preparations for the burn were made in accordance with NFPA 1403. On the day of the burn, a final inspection of the building was made, a safety briefing was held, crews were assembled, and a RIT team established. Evolutions included fire attack, ventilation and search and rescue. The early morning burns were conducted in the upstairs master bathroom until it was no longer safe to do so. The late morning burns were conducted in the downstairs bedrooms. All throughout the exercise, the structure, and interior, conditions were being evaluated by the Safety Officer and the Instructors. Once the structure would no longer safely support interior operations, the evacuation signal was given and all firefighters and instructors abandoned the building and let it burn to the ground.

Due to the cooperation of all involved, and the compliance with NFPA 1403, this live fire training evolution was conducted without incident. The members of KIVFD wish to thank its members, the Ladies Auxiliary, and the participants from Queen Anne's stations 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and the Greensboro VFD for a safe and meaningful day.
